Private versus Ubiquitous

After Sartre's death, Beauvoir published a collection of Sartre's letters to her. After her death, her letters to him were published. Hemingway's private letters were published 20, 31 and 50 years after his death. Private letters of literary or artistic people are often published posthumously. What was once private between two people becomes public. Some of the sentences are taken out of context and are turned into ubiquituos quotes that help less eloquent people express themselves. Now, with efficient devices and internet these  writings are as reachable as one's own feelings.
I question 2 things.
1) it is quite human to be nosy (as can be seen with the obsession with reality shows) but is it right/ethical to publish private writings?
2)  I believe the value of the word diminished in the 2000s. do you?
